The UK-based international law firm Clyde & Co, along with local firm Jorquiera y Rozas Abogados presented to the main actors in the national maritime transport industry the future legislative challenges chartering contracts and the electronic chart navigation technology requirements will instill in the industry in an interesting and highly attended seminar at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Santiago, on November 17.
Elizabeth Turnbull and Rob Collins from Clyde & Co enlightened high executives from Ultragas, CSAV, ENAP, Hamburg Süd, Hapag Lloyd, Humboldt, KLine, Maersk, MSC, NYK, among other important companies present, about the legal implications of the chartering contracts, interpretation of clauses and the recent developments for ship-owners and charterers.
At the end of her presentation, Elizabeth Turnbull noted that the importance of this seminar was to create a bond with their clients and "show the commitment with the region".
The second presentation, given by senior master mariner Martyn Haines, was an extensive explanation about the new regulations that will determine safe and unsafe ports, and, specifically, the new mandatory implementation of the Electronic Chart Display and Information System - ECDIS- to begin in 2012.
Ricardo Rozas, partner of Jorquiera & Rozas Abogados was the moderator during the event.
The attendants were very appreciative about the nature of the presentations, as they were able to exchange ideas about issues that will become very relevant in the maritime transport industry. A high Ultragas executive commented that the topics were presented were of permanent importance in the business between ship-owners and charterers and the technology issue has been under discussion for quite some time and that is why it is important to be up to date on the advances.
