Cargo in the air: Air Freight Report Chile 2017

Exclusive MundoMaritimo Consultancies analysis report
Edition of April 26, 2018

Air cargo transport has managed to position itself as a feasable alternative and, in some cases, even a more favorable one than maritime shipping, due to shorter transport times that make it a more attractive option for time-sensitive clients. The phenomenon that once destabilized maritime cargo now has its own market with parameters and shares that measure and cuantify airlines’ performance.

Thanks to an intensive investigation work, MundoMaritimo Consultancies, our consultancy and analysis unit lead by Karl-Heinz Ruzsitska, has been analyzing not just the maritime transport market, but also air cargo.

Cargo in the air

Among the relevant data exposed in the exclusive report, DHL Supply Chain & Global leads the global air cargo freight forwarder ranking with 2,081,000 metric tons (mt). The remaining positions on the list are filled by the Swiss Kuehne + Nagel with 1,304,000 mt in second place and Germany’s DB Schenker with 1,179,000 mt in third place. Fourth place is taken by UPS Supply Chain Solutions with 935,300 mt and Switzerland’s Panalpina takes fifth place in the ranking with 921,400 mt (Armstrong & Associates, INC.).

Chilean market

In the specific case of Chile, the ‘top 10’ air cargo freight forwarders for exports are traditionally lead by local companies, such as Nexus, in firdt place, followed by Acosta & Aguayo and Cargo Net Center in third position. The other spots on the list belong to Andes Logistics, Agility, Dangerous & Dry Cargo S.A., Alfa Logistics S.P.A., Soc. Com, Las Coscojas, Hellmann and Kuehne + Nagel Chile.

The import market is lead by international companies, like DHL Global Forwarding, followed by Kuehne + Nagel Chile and LATAM. This ranking also includes Alexim and Panalpina with Schenker, Ceva, Senator, UPS  and Alexim Trading Corp.
