UPR and Ferromex launch new LA-Mexico intermodal service

Edition of December 08, 2003

Union Pacific Railroad and Ferrocarril Mexicano have introduced a new, expedited, all-rail intermodal service offering 7-day transit between Los Angeles and the primary Mexican industrial centres of Guadalajara and Mexico City. (12/8/2003)

The new service features expedited, seamless transit between Mexico and the US, bypassing customs at the border by clearing customs within the interior of Mexico. TransBorder provides shippers complete tracking capability in both the US and Mexico.

UPR will interchange traffic with the Ferromex over the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez gateway. It is anticipated that additional US and Mexican cities will be added to this new service in the near future.

The new service also offers customers EMP container equipment and 24/7 reservations, as Ferromex becomes the latest Mexican railroad to join the EMP program. The EMP fleet offers both 48-foot standard and 53-foot high-cube containers.

The new service, which began on December 1st, is offered six days a week for northbound shipments, and five days a week for southbound.
