President Piñera’s much awaited state-of-the-nation message scheduled for June 1 revealed the new administration’s plans for port development and connectivity. According to the Head of State, it is necessary to improve port and airport infrastructure for better connectivity within Chile and the rest of the world.
“We will have to expand and modernize airports at Santiago, Concepcion, Arica, Iquique, La Serena and Puerto Montt –to name a few-, but also we have to face the challenge of expanding and modernizing our ports, which entails construction of the Large Scale Port (LSP) in San Antonio and port capacity expansion in Valparaiso and ports of other regions,” said Piñera.
With regards to transport, the President highlighted the use of digital technology in highways and agreements with licensees to achieve time saving and an overall safer traffic flow.
Also, during the first public address of his administration, Piñera mentioned the proposed legislation for a Free Trade Agreement with Argentina and the negotiation with Brazil for a similar commercial agreement.
