Offshore E&P and gender equality lead day 2 of WISTA AMERICAS 2018

Conference second day continued addressing global, local contingency issues
Edition of June 21, 2018

The Argentinean and Brazilian oil&gas industries opened the discussion panels on day 2 of the first regional WISTA AMERICAS 2018 conference, presenting a very complete outlook of the offshore exploration activities in both Atlantic coastal countries. Camila Mendes and Alexandre Calmon, both Brazilian lawyers experts in the fuel industry, focused their presentations on contracts in the oil&gas area and how it has changed the outlook for the national E&P industry, respectively. On his part, Rodrigo García Berro, coordinator for the Argentina Offshore Round 1 of the Ministry of Energy and Mining showed the Argentinean reality on the subject.

The second panel concentrated presentations on technology v/s the human factor, generating an interesting debate on the role of technological disruption and, in paralell, women’s participation in the maritime-port industry, emphasizing gender equality, women in leadership and decision-making positions, health and wellbeing and appropriate treatment in the workplace and prevention of sexual and work harassment. Lead by Lludelis Espinal, president of WISTA DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, the panel was formed by Katerina Konsta, CEO SeaWorks, who spoke about technology diversion and shipping inclusion, followed by Mona Swoboda, project coordinator for the Inter-American Committee on Ports OAS, with a paper on human capacities with gender equality for competitive ports from the CIP’s perspective. Roger Harris, executive director International Seafarer’s Welfare and Assistance Network ISWAN, followed with a presentation on mental wellbeing of workers in the maritime-port sector and Carolina Barone closed the panel with public security policies with a gender perspective from the Argentinean ministry of safety, focusing on how the government looks to protect women in uniform against cases of abuse and violence, within the workplace and in their homes.

Both panels opened interesting debate amongst the attendants, creating an animated exchange of ideas.

The second day of WISTA AMERICAS 2018 continues in the afternoon of Tuesday June 19, to end with a networking event that includes a tango show.
