Only 12 months after opening its own facilities, Medlog Chile is currently one of Chile’s top transport and storage players, setting out to conquer the local logistics industry by providing a broad range of new services, along with important investment and organic growth plans.
Patricio Román, general manager for Medlog Chile, explains to MundoMarítimo that the company is well equipped to accomplish these goals. “We have a storage facility in Santiago and are building another one in Arica, since we are opening up to new business areas such as cargo and container storage, among other projects".
Medlog Chile was created in 2001 as Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC Chile) Intermodal area, providing ground transportation services to the carrier’s clients. In 2011 Medlog became an independent company, supplying logistic solutions for MSC.
Medlog’s logistic services proposal considers the client’s complete supply chain needs. “We have designed a solution that transports cargo door to door for the client’s complete benefit, so that they may dedicate their complete focus to their core business,” says Rodrigo Robles, storage manager.
Just a few hundred meters off ruta 68 highway in Santiago, Medlog has a 60,000 square meter storage and commercial facility. Its strategic location is close to the San Antonio and Valparaíso ports, as well as the country’s main retailers’ distribution centers. The facilities have 24/7 survaillance, perimetral fence and insurance policies for all cargo.
The company is currently building a 2,400 square-meter warehouse for cargo storage, Medlog’s newest business venture. Óscar Villegas, commercial manager, comments that this space is intended to serve for consolidation and deconsolidation of loads and cargo transfer. “We are opening up to other areas so that we may offer a real solution that satisfies our clients’ needs,” he adds.
Another ongoing project is the warehouse rental space for container storage. “Clients are looking for these types of solutions to satisfy specific storage needs or to transport thier belongins in a saferway. Our intention is to cater to the clients requests, including positioning the unit in the requested location for as long as needed,” Villegas explains.
Among Medlog’s other plans for the short term is the inauguration of the new storage facility in Arica with 2 hectares available for used and empty containers. The company is also contemplating building another storage facility in the central region.
Medlog Chile is currently one of the country’s top logistic operators. With a team of 70 professionals operating in the Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción offices, Medlog Chile has a track record of 5 years and MSC’s support. “We are working to diversify our services as per our clients’ needs and are continuosly investing to better our services and consoldate pressence in all national ports,” Roman adds.
