Edition of June 01, 2018

Less than a days before the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association - WISTA Americas 2018 event in Buenos Aires, Argentina (June 18-20), Chilean executives who are part of the local chapter shared with MundoMaritimo their motivations to join the network.

Paola Ferreira, new business manager for eClaims, it is important to move forward in gender issues in all areas, from human to professional. “I am deeply motivated by the work we ave been doing for some time to gather more women that share the desire to be a part fof Wista Chile. It has been a pleasant surprise to discover that there are women interested in participating and giving more visibility to this industry. It is a very attractive challenge. I would like that more women continue to sign up as we are available to continue moving forward,” she said. On her part, Carolina Prat, head of operations at Ultratug, said that this is an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences in different areas and also an occasion for support and creation of new friendships. “Working as a team we can go very far,” she added.

BMT Worldwide business development executive Paola Pasten pointed to the opportunity to create a support network for women in the industry, share experiences and knowledge. “We can always learn something new y what better than in a friendly environment.” Camila Vera, senior manager at Ultratank, gave a similar testimony, explaining that one of the main reasons for her to join the organization was to meet more women in the industry so they may share information and experiences.

Jazmín Jorquera, head of operations control and business processes at Ultranav also had positive words on the creation of the association in Chile: “It is incredible the amount of women that work in this industry and we are just now connecting. We hope soon to have a work plan and, of course, to attract more women and men that undertand that these initiatives are only looking to boost women’s role in the shipping industry.” “We believe the the industry’s development is also linked to the role of women, who have become a great addition in recent years given their professionalism and skills,” said Claudia Magna, director at MundoMaritimo and who has been working for the consolidation of Wista Chile alongside other industry executives.
